Voice of Matter Exhibition Publication
By Timon Benson (b. 1998, Manchester)
This publication accompanies Timon Benson’s debut solo exhibition, Voice of Matter, and presents a process-led documentation of his evolving photographic practice. Combining intimate portraits, cameraless luminograms, and works that fuse these approaches. At the core of the publication is the question: What does it feel like to be incredibly alive?

Accompanied by ‘this kiss is for the world’ by Molly Emma and ‘BENSON SYNDROME’ by Helenskià Collet, the publication provides a layered reflection on the fleeting intensity of human experience, capturing both Benson’s instinctual methodology and the communities that inspire his work. Light remains central throughout, serving as both medium and subject, guiding readers through a thoughtful and immersive journey, rebirthing the exhibition in to new form.

Written and curated by Kymara Akinpelumi, documenting the exhibition at Heaven 11, Manchester (1–10 August 2025).
Supported by Arts Council England, Grain Projects, Southern and Partners, and Louise Giovanelli.
